To learn to hold

Oh, to learn to hold
a dandelion seed
in the palm of the hand

outstretched in white
where softened cracks and creases
touch and kiss and miss

watch white, delicate fluff
dance with breeze and breath
brushing past and over

to the edge of skin
teasing gain and loss
tickling what could be

fingers cage it in
crags and cuts that trap
sticking deep the seed

a promise strokes and sings
soothes fleshy bars to rest
and lay their burdens low

watch uncertain seed
tumble and twirl and skirt
the edges and beyond
